How to Find Public Records

  2. Use data.santamonica.gov for permit and planning data.
  3. Submit a formal public records request through the City's portal.
  4. When requesting, include: permit number, application date, and ask for all attachments, staff comments, and correspondence.

How to Submit Public Comment

  1. Identify the project by address and reference number (e.g., 2958 Delaware Ave / 26ENT-0060).
  2. State: "Please enter this comment into the administrative record for [project reference]."
  3. Be factual and specific — reference documents, dates, plan sheet numbers where possible.
  4. Include lived experience when relevant — how will this affect your daily life, your street, your family?
  5. Save a copy of everything you send.

Glossary

SB 1123
State legislation that allows certain housing projects to bypass local discretionary review. Does not eliminate objective standards, health/safety requirements, or documentation obligations.
SB 330

AFFH
Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing. Federal and state requirement that cities actively work to reduce segregation and promote equitable development patterns.

Discretionary Review
An approval process that involves judgment, public input, and can include conditions. Allows public hearings.
AQMD Rule 1403
South Coast Air Quality Management District regulation governing asbestos surveys and notifications before demolition.
Arborist Report
A certified assessment of tree health, root zones, and construction impacts, prepared by a qualified arborist.
Tree Protection Plan
A plan specifying how trees near a construction site will be protected during and after construction.
